Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will be coming to the Philippines in a 5-day state visit this month. According to Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the emperor and empress will be arriving in the Philippines on January 26, and are scheduled to visit Calirya and Los BaƱos on January 29. Coloma had this to say about the visit:
"The Philippines is pleased to welcome Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, to a State Visit to the Philippines on 26 to 30 January 2016. Their Majesties’ State Visit is a major highlight and fitting start to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of the Philippines and Japan in 2015."

The Philipppines has strong ties with Japan, as Japan is one of the top sources of foreign investments in this country. This will be Their Majesties' first time in the Philippines since their visit in 1962 as crown prince and princess.
